Aromatic Milk Tea with Pearl Sago

As there is nothing but Aromatic tea flavouring the milk, the earl grey-ish flavour comes across very strong. Not a bad thing!

I do love me some pearl sago balls, but they just get in the way of me and my milk as they consistently plug up the straw. Let me have some calcium!

Happy Lemon!

Milk Tea Pudding Special

Had a bit of fun guessing what makes these “special” drinks so “special”. I think I’ve got it – mesona jelly, a dash of malt, qq jelly and pearl sago balls, plus the aforementioned “pudding”.

Besides the floaters, the rest is your standard Milk Tea. There’s also a HOT version which I would prefer. The milk tea quickly becomes watery with all the ice cubes in the regular version.

Overall, Happy Lemon!

Salted Kumquat (Wonton Noodle House, Melbourne)

Not from Happy Lemon, but this experiment has made me more adventurous with drink choices.

This was *extremely* salty and had some odd seeds floating in the bottom that really looked like cracked pepper. I love Kumquat tea, and a dash of salt would have worked, but this tasted like i’d swallowed a mouthful of pool water. Drank half before giving up.

Note to self, stick to Happy Lemon!

Passion Fruit with Kanten and QQ Jelly

Still determined to finish my New Year resolution from last year!

I think they’ve snuck some “Yogurt” into this beverage as it’s incredibly sweet. The Kanten jelly lurks at the bottom, until all that remains is a giant clear blob with a few passionfruit seeds stuck in it.

This falls in the “Specialty Drinks” category, so there is nothing tea related about it. Just a very sweet passion fruit flavoured drink with two different kinds of jelly floaters.

Ok Lemon.

Matcha with Malt (HOT)

I shouldn’t have been worried about drinking the HOT versions during summer – stupid rainy cold Sydney weather is making it all too easy to grab the warm ‘n comforting milky options.

Matcha with Malt looks to me like an experiment with food colouring. Just a few drops of green to turn it a shade murky, but not enough to leave your tongue green. The new HL worker has managed to get my beverage into the hotter side of warm, but it’s a bit too sweet for my liking. Since I wasn’t given a straw, all of the Malt has fallen to the bottom leaving the last few sips “grainy” but not disgustingly so. Unlike the last time I had a malt drink and it tasted like a chunk of multi-grain bread had fallen in and partially dissolved at the bottom.

Not too bad overall, but I personally prefer Matcha when the adzuki beans are added. Thumbs up lemon.

Pineapple Fruit Tea

This is the fourth (and last) of the New Fresh Fruit Tea offering at Happy Lemon. After the other 3, i was expecting something resembling pineapple juice with aloe chunks. Thankfully there was more “tea” added into this beverage as pineapple alone gets pretty sweet and sticky.

Nothing too exciting, but i can tick it off the list.

Meh lemon!

Milk Tea King with Pudding

This drink has it all – malt, pearl sago balls, QQ Jelly, Mesona Jelly and Pudding. The Milk Tea has more of a kick to it than usual, which I’d put down to the addition of Malt. Very satisfying, especially if you’re after more of a meal than a drink.

Shot taken in Coles in front of the large array of Gluten and Lactose free biscuit range. I really need a manicure.

Very happy (but somewhat stressed) lemon!

QQ Brilliant Fruit Tea

“Brilliant Fruit” sounded so exotic on the menu, so of course I had to try it. Basically, it’s tropical fruit juice without any punch. I can see some Passionfruit seeds, some apple slices, lemon slices and orange slices, but in the end it tastes like watered down orange-y juice that is nowhere near as fruity or flavoursome as the other Fresh Fruit Tea series. Even the addition of QQ/Nata Da Coco floaters isn’t enough.

Hipster lemon Alert

Lunch fail! Disappointed lemon. HL Recommended stamp misleading once again.

Orange Fruit Tea

Boils down to fresh orange juice with aloe bits. Instead of lemon slices, there are orange slices. Bit frothy on top to indicate freshness. Could likely make this yourself with aloe juice and orange juice. No “tea” involved.

New phone means super hi def images of the drink on my desk. WHOAH!

Hardly surprised lemon.

Kumquat Fruit Tea

Having realised I missed an entire WEEK without a HL fix, I’ve dived into one of the new options – Kumquat Fruit tea. I’ve always been a fan on Kumquat tea, and the HL version is on point. Fruity, weet but not sickly, full of aloe chunks, with a small wedge of lemon floating on top.

Not much to it, but this is one of the few “Recommended” drinks that I can agree with.

Happy Lemon :)
